Pilcrow : Paragraph spacing, to indicate a new paragraph.

Leading : The distance between the capline.
(Example at Fig 4.1)

INSTRUCTION

PROJECT 1
18/09/19 - 02/10/19 (Week 4 - Week 6)

In this project, we have to expressing a sentence and a large amount of text. And also we can utilize the knowledge that we have learn in design principle class. So first thing first we have been given 3 editorial text in facebook and we have to read it and choose one from those 3 article. I decided to choose First thing first because it's look interesting to design.

At first, i have no idea what to do so i just do it like what i know, so it's really ugly and so bad, i just try it out first. This below is my really bad work.
Fig 1.1: This is my first attempt and it's
so messy and so bad

Fig 1.2 : So I decided to do it in AI

Fig 1.5: Result second attempt

So, I suddenly got an idea and i'm improving my first work (Fig 1.5), so this is the process.

I showed all my artwork to Mr. Vinod & Mr. Shamsul and they choose my second attempt work. And this is the final outcome after I got feedback from the first picture (Fig 1.5)

Fig 1.11: Final
The idea of this is the ' I ' alphabet is the same as ' 1 ' and because
each word has the alphabet ' I ' so i made it like that in order to
make reader focus on the I = 1 that means First Thing First. The article is not
that important but the important thing is the First thing first sentence,
so that i expressed this sentence with this design.

FEEDBACK

Week 5
General Feedback: The body of text must be connected. Text boxes must be link. This is very important especially if you work in a company. If you don't the percentage of it to be gone is big.

Specific Feedback: Mr.Vinod choose my very second attempt of making this project, he said the type size is too big and I can change my letterspacing. So I change the type size and also I sort out the paragraph because Mr.Shamsul said my body of the text isn't straight.

Week 6
General Feedback : Everyone should have / buy a mouse in this class.

Specific Feedback : Mr.Vinod choose my 2nd attempt work. He said the type size is too big and i can change my letterspacing if i want, if i don't want also okay. So i change the type size and also i sort out the paragraph because Mr.Shamsul said my body of text isn't straight.

REFLECTION

Experience :
Week 5 : At first, i felt so stressed because i don't know how to do this thing, i felt like i want to give up but my friend always support me.
Week 6 : I feel like this project is more challenging than the exercises of course. And also the more I do it and getting better at this the more fun I got it.

Observation :
Week 5 : What i saw is like many people don't know what to do including me, but we all learn together and work together so everyone can do this project by asking/teaching one another.
Week 6 : I observed that every people has their own unique work and their own creativity and everyone looks so good at making this.

Findings:
Week 5 : I found it really hard to do this expressing text at first, but when i started to explore, think & practice more i believe that everyone can do great things when they truly want to do it and practice more.
Week 6 : I have to learn to work more careful and conscientious because i accidentally printed 7 pages of all my work, all the bad and the good one, and it cost RM21 and i felt stupid with that, because it's a lot of money that i wasted because of my own fault. So from this lesson, next time i'll be more careful when do things.

FURTHER READING

Typography By Ambrose / Harris

Fig 2.1 : Typography book

According to this book, Typography is the means by which a written idea is given visual form. Typography is one of the most influental elements on the character and emotional quality of design. This book also provided the sentence from a typographer Eric Gill that i've read before about what is type, he said ' letters are things, they are not pictures of things'. This book tells me that typeface and font are used synonymously in common usage but actually their meaning is different. Typeface is a collection of characters, letters, numbers, symbols, punctuation which have the same, distinct design whereas Font is the physical means used to create a typeface. This all time i thought they have the same meaning.

I also read about Italic or oblique. There's a distinction between Italic and oblique typefaces, it says that there are no right or wrong to select neither italic or oblique. Selection between this two choices will be based upon making an informed judgement about what works best in a specific design for the intended purpose. Oblique is the development of slanted version of Roman characters, because italic were considered innapropriate for the industrial and non-calligraphic designs of typefaces.

Fig 2.2 : Mastering Type book

The point that i got from one of the topic in this book 'Letter' are several artist movements occuring at the same time as these advances in printing also influences typography. A letter is defined as a character or symbol that represents sound used in speech. 26 simple little characters gives us the ability to communicate with one another. It's important to understand these character individually to learn how to use typography. Without a good understanding designer cannot properly create good typographic design.
